CIFOR is announcing the launch of the beta version of ‘Landscape Game,’ a video game that teaches the economic and environmental tradeoffs of land-use investments.

The game, originally invented as a board game by CIFOR scientist Herry
Purnomo, returns now as an online game and (soon) a downloadable app,
providing a more complex, rich and educational experience. Among the
game’s features:
– Play solo or with friends, online or offline
– Choose from seven different landscapes, including Amazon, Borneo,
Congo and Java
– Play in one of four languages?English, Spanish, French, Indonesian
– Invest to win in REDD+, logging, oil palm, ecotourism, agroforest,
soybeans, livestock and more
– Experiment with policies: Play as the government to pass laws, taxes
and subsidies
– Watch your footprint: Carbon stocks, biodiversity, and food
production affect your score
